Welcome to the Center for Religious Development web site!

Established in 1971, the Center was one of the first corporate enterprises in the United States to offer continuing spiritual direction to men and women of diverse educational, occupational, and religious backgrounds.

In an average week, over 100 people from the Boston-Cambridge area and beyond come to the Center, which is set in a residential neighborhood and is easily accessible by bus and subway.

Exploration and development of the ministry of spiritual direction are major purposes of the work of the Center.  Our ministry has led to the publication of two books, numerous articles, and the presentation of workshops in spirituality and spiritual direction throughout the world.

Francis Conway
 welcomes you to CRD!

Since 1972, the Center has sponsored its Associate Program for the further development of experienced spiritual directors. Over 250 women and men from the United States and abroad have graduated from this program and spread the ministry of spiritual direction and supervision in many countries.

In the fall of 1998 the Center for Religious Development and Weston Jesuit School of Theology began a new venture.  Weston now offers an M.A. in Spiritual Direction.  This two-year program includes an academic year taken at Weston Jesuit School of Theology, and a year of supervised ministry taken at CRD (the Associates Program).

Since 1999, the Center has offered, in collaboration with WJST, a two-semester Beginner’s Practicum in the ministry of spiritual direction.  This Practicum is open to students in the Boston Theological Institute and selected special students.
